Letter From the Headteacher

Welcome to our website and thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school …

Heber Primary School is a beautiful Victorian building in the heart of East Dulwich. Situated in a quiet residential road, we are walking distance to a range of open green spaces that we use on a regular basis. We are also very close to transport links, enabling us to utilise everything that London has to offer.

Our work in promoting pupil’s personal development and welfare has been rated ‘outstanding’ … We are a happy, unique and creative school where all children are welcome and all achieve. Visitors always comment on the calm, purposeful atmosphere at Heber. Our children are eager to learn and their behaviour and attitudes clearly reflect our three key values of thoughtfulness, resilience and responsibility. This was also appreciated by Ofsted in our most recent inspection who reported that the schools work in promoting pupil’s personal development and welfare has been rated ‘outstanding’. Sitting alongside our commitment to pupil welfare is a constant and relentless focus on the progress of each and every child in the school.

We are proud of our reputation as an inclusive school. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We strongly believe that our role is to provide a warm, friendly, safe place for children, regardless of their starting points.

We consider ourselves a family. We foster strong relationships between pupils and staff and our children create long lasting relationships with their peers.

We all firmly believe that children learn best when they are having fun and are engaged in meaningful learning …We are extremely proud of the varied opportunities that we provide across the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities. Our pupils have opportunities to learn through a wide range of educational visits, experiences and events, including residential trips. We teach an immersive and engaging topic based curriculum and provide lots of opportunities for active learning. Our staff have a shared drive to constantly review, improve and enrich our curriculum to ensure learning is relevant and exciting for all pupils. We all firmly believe that children learn best when they are having fun and are engaged in meaningful learning.

Our highly experienced and stable staff inspire our children with a life-long love of learning. They provide pupils with appropriate academic challenges and an excellent breadth and quality of education beyond the core subjects. We employ specialist teachers for Music, Art and PE. We have a dedicated Art Room and Music Hall. Exhibitions, concerts and sports tournaments are a regular feature of school life.

We encourage our children to develop a strong sense of self and help children to identify and develop their individuality. Parents and families are integral to the life of the school. There are lots of opportunities for families to be involved in school life. Our Parent and Friends Committee (PAF) are hugely supportive of the school and organise a wide range of exciting events that take place throughout the year.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family.

If you would like to arrange a visit, we’d be delighted to show you around. Please contact our school office to find a suitable time.
